Mount Carmel Cathedral, originally known as Guma’ Yu’us Bithen de Carmen, traces its origins to 1907 in Garapan. Destroyed during World War II, the Church was rebuilt in Chalan Kanoa, with construction beginning in 1947 and completed in 1949. Blessed on December 14, 1949, it features a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus atop its front tower. In 1984, it was elevated to cathedral status with the establishment of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa. The Cathedral stands as a symbol of community resilience, faith, and the enduring heritage of the Chamorro and Carolinian people.
