Banzai Cliff is a coastal promontory at the northern tip of Saipan, rising about 120–150 feet above the ocean. During the 1944 Battle of Saipan, it became the site of mass suicides of Japanese civilians and soldiers. The surrounding 7.5-acre area was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and today serves as a memorial overlook with monuments honoring those who died.
